It started with all of Year 5 collecting final donations and sorting out all the dolls, toys, cars, puzzles, jig-saws, boats, boats, clothes, books, comics and videos, pricing them and then setting up our stalls. By Monday afternoon 5D's, the resource room and 5E's class was overflowing with second hand things to sell.
On Tuesday we had to leave the newly set up stalls and rush down the stairs to catch a bus at 8:45 with the help of the three Swedish teachers we got the bus to the Åby swimming pool. At the pool we all participated in a swimming test with Peter. Some of us liked it so much that they returned later to race each other in the lanes. By the end of the day we had a great time swimming, playing, jumping off the diving board and going down the slides. From a teacher perspective we all thought that it was the best swimming day we had all attended. This sentiment was reinforced by an email from Peter the next day who informed us that the staff at the pool approached him to tell us what a pleasant and responsible group the grades 4 and 5 were!
The rest of the week was full speed ahead with the sale; we had our first customers arrive at 9.00 on Wednesday morning and it did not stop until Thursday afternoon. All the Year 5 students did an impeccably good job at selling, serving and helping people find things they wanted. Multiple times we saw students taking their own initiative and trying new things. Some groups shared their toys with others who had sold most of theirs, others did their best to make everybody who walked away from their stall happy, others helped the smaller kids buy things that they wanted and would not let them spend money on things they probably didn't really want or need.
By Friday afternoon the classrooms where back to normal and all the unsold things packed away and we ended the week happy but very tired!
A happy customer!
